NEWS

Happening this Week

  • Rolling with Peak Design. The gear/bag gods at Peak Design just teased their first-ever roller bag, and it’s already live on Kickstarter. Seems to be built with the same slick design and clever storage that is peak design and this one’s made for photographers who actually travel. Expandable, durable, and—knowing Peak—a little bit overengineered (in the best way). Check it out here.

  • Canon for creators. Canon just dropped a new camera the PowerShot V1. a compact camera built for creators. Pro but not—basically a pocket-sized Sony ZV-1 competitor, but Canon-style and maybe suitable for a personal camera, or third back up. Check it out here.

  • Christopher Esber goes bridal. Leading a ā€˜sleek minimalism’ wave, Christopher Esber just dropped his debut bridal collection, and it’s GOOD—chic, sculptural, and cool. It’s quiet luxury, but actually.

  • Sony’s accessible new wide. Yesterday Sony announced a new 16mm f1.8 lens. Cheaper and smaller than their successful 14mm 1.8. Worth a look! See it here.

  • WPPI Conference Last Chance. Last chance to lock in the cheaper price for WPPI tickets - jump in before March 1st!

  • Middle Class wedding dying? A viral Reddit thread has wedding photographers in debate: are mid-tier weddings disappearing? Are luxury weddings thriving and budget-conscious couples cutting costs EVEN more? Many are seeing a squeeze in the middle. What about you? See the convo here.

  • Pic-Time x StyleCloud (Kadence). Imagine dragging photos direct from your gallery into your website… Well now you can with a new integration between Pic-Time and Stylecloud. This could maybe help those of you considering a new website soon!

šŸ’‹ Ideal Clients - who is your instagram content even for?

The wrong target
In 2024, we saw a whole wave of photographers dive into the behind-the-scenes content game—chasing views, trying to go viral, and impressing… other photographers? We saw it all: hot takes on the industry, behind-the-scenes clips of shooting down the aisle, yaps on screen talking about gear and editing—reels and posts all growing a following of… you guessed it, other photographers.

But here’s the thing—photographers don’t pay you to shoot their weddings. Couples do. So why are so many photographers spending their time making content just for other photographers?

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

So instead of chasing views, likes and comments from the wrong target, let’s start curating a world that your ideal couples want to step into. Because that’s the real goal, right? Most wedding photographers want to book 10 to 40 weddings a year—and they don’t just want any clients. They want their clients. Their ideal client. So if that’s the goalpost, then what kind of content is actually gets you there? Let’s dive into a few ideas and thoughts:

GEAR

Ī£ Sigma’s new vibe

The new Sigma BF - alongside the new branding vibe from Sigma

Sigma Just Dropped a Camera That Actually Has a Vibe
Camera brands aren’t usually known for aesthetics. But Sigma? They just hit refresh on their entire brand AND dropped a camera that feels… cool.

This is the Sigma BF—a full-frame mirrorless camera that strips everything down to the essentials. No dials. No memory card slot. Just a solid block of aluminum (nice) milled into something that looks like it belongs in a modern art museum.

Sigma is calling it "radically simple."

  • 230GB built-in SSD. No memory cards? WHAT?

  • A full-frame 24.6MP sensor. Actually perfect size.

  • 13 color modes, 6K video, L-Mount compatibility.

  • The design? People saying it’s the camera apple would make - that’s high design praise right.

It’s bold. It’s minimal. And unlike 90% of camera brands, so Sigma actually has a point of view.

Will wedding photographers be using it? Probably not. But are we into a brand that actually dares to shake things up?

Yeah. We are.
