THE BIG IDEA

📷 Photo Breakdown: How Jose Villa Shot Demi’s Wedding

Images: josevilla

Demi Lovado got married this week. And phew, the internet heard about it. For good reason too. When a big time celeb gets married, AND one of the most respected wedding photographers is behind the camera… you pay attention.

Jose Villa photographed ddlovato and jutesmusic’s big day and the images are everything you’d expect. Iconic. You knew they would be.

BUT we’re not just here to admire it all. We are here to break it down.

What does one of the best wedding photographers in the world do differently? What’s the magic behind the thoughts, the frames, the ideas? And what can YOU actually learn from them.

Let’s dive in.

Structure and Framing

What hits you first is how ‘correct’ every frame feels. Every image is precisely composed with dead centre compositions. Somehow it feels polished, it feels ‘luxury’.

What helps make this correct feeling is the STRAIGHT LINES.
Have a close look at every line and perspective in the above images. They are all perfectly straight, even right next to the edge of the frame. Careful use of the ‘auto upright’ tool in Lightroom for sure! This makes every image feel clean, intentional and “perfect”.

*look especially close at the image of the dresses hanging. The straight on perspective and straight lines of the wall makes the shot.

What adds again to this is the environmental framing. Doorways. Windows. The environment isn’t just a backdrop…
